Financial Aid

Financial Aid

  • Financial aid is any grant or scholarship, loan, or paid employment offered to help a student meet his/her college expenses.

  • The first step in qualifying for aid is applying for FAFSA. FAFSA stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students can begin applying for FAFSA in December. Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA to see what kind of financial assistance they qualify for. More information is available through Virtual Financial Aid Presentations (michigan.gov).

  • If you meet the basic eligibility criteria for federal student aid, the financial aid office at your college or career school determines how much aid you are eligible to receive.

Your eligibility depends on your Student Aid Index (SAI), your year in school, your enrollment status, and the cost of attendance at the school you will be attending. See How Financial Aid Is Calculated | Federal Student Aid for more information.

Check out the Federal Student Aid website for more information.
